Aerospace Objectives & Tasks
Objective 1:
To enhance the existing base of Alberta aerospace and aviation capabilities.
Tasks:
To maximize the use of existing capabilities as well as human resources and
facilities.
To foster and promote education and re-training by:
o Continued participation with CAMS
o Continued participation with SAIT and the Art Smith Aero Centre and provincial
colleges by attending two conferences per year. New print material will be required
for each.
To increase sources of supply by:
o Establishing a database of capabilities through the Aviation Alberta
Web Site.
o Establishing an Alberta Aerospace and Aviation Capability Guide.
To increase research and development (R&D) capabilities and activities in
the sector.
To develop new capabilities to focus on:
o Integrated systems.
o Engineered products and proprietary process that promote export opportunities.
o Building on the existing human resource base.
To enhance cooperation with educational institutes to ensure that knowledge
and skills development address market and technology needs.
To identify and utilize appropriate government programs.
Objective 2:
To identify markets and win export contracts.
Tasks:
To gather, analyze and disseminate market intelligence through
vehicles such as Source Can, AIAC, MERX and the monthly
Aviation Alberta Newsletter.
To promote focused development of integrated systems products, new
materials and processes.
To access emerging world aerospace markets through the dissolution of
non-tariff barrier in free trade zones throughout the province.
To partner with all levels of government in raising the profile of Alberta’s
aerospace and aviation capabilities through active participation at the monthly AED,
Aviation and Aerospace sector team meetings.
Objective 3:
To assist Alberta’s aerospace and aviation industry to become more competitive in the global market place by acting as a facilitator.
Tasks:
To encourage strategic partnerships in competing for contracts.
To develop business networks.
To work with WAA, AIAC, CDIA, DND and Industry Canada to develop a
better awareness of Alberta’s abilities at the national level by:
o Attending the annual WAA conference
o Attending the annual AIAC conference
o Attending the annual CANSEC conference and tradeshow
To develop an aerospace cluster in the Calgary region and subsequently in
the Edmonton region by:
o Assessing industry response to the cluster concept and garnering consensus
and buy in for the need, opportunity and benefits.
o Developing the aerospace sector profile for the Calgary region.
Objective 4:
To coordinate the industry to work closely with all levels of government to promote the province as a highly desirable location for domestic and international investment.
Tasks:
To secure political support from senior provincial, urban and rural municipalities
elected officials and their associated civil servants.
To participate with government investment and support programs.
To maximize Alberta’s regional share of Crown projects through join industry
and government cooperation.
To attract new capabilities to the province, through an active and focused
marketing campaign by industry and the province.
Objective 5:
To create and participate in programs that will contribute to an expanded supplier base while enabling our industry to be more competitive in world markets.
Tasks:
To coordinate the development of an industry capability database.
To collaborate with industry and government procurement officials to seek
out new business opportunities.
To encourage and promote total quality management and assurance training
initiatives in an effort to better prepare industry as qualified suppliers.
To collaborate with post-secondary institutions to satisfy future industry needs.
